Social media house rules

Social media provides a range of opportunities to participate in discussions and to share information – and we want to make sure that we can all do so safely.

We’re committed to ensuring that the people of Scotland are informed and engaged in the work that we do. Social media plays an important role in communicating See Me’s mission, values and helping to build the See Us social movement.

We want our social media channels to be a place where people can feel safe and engage in open discussion on a range of topics connected to mental health stigma and discrimination.

To ensure that everyone in our online community has a positive experience, we have some house rules that apply across our social media channels – on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

  • All users must comply with the social media platform's Terms of Use as well as our own house rules.

  • People who make posts containing spam, personal abuse or prejudiced or discriminatory statements will be blocked immediately and reported where necessary.

  • We will delete posts that contain:

  • Personal attacks

  • Harassment

  • Defamation

  • Explicit content

  • Abuse

  • Discriminatory language, including comments and posts of a racist, homophobic, transphobic nature

  • Threats

  • Obscenities

  • Spam or repeated commenting

  • Adverts for commercial products

  • Links leading to misinformation or misleading content

  • Material that breaches copyright laws or

  • Any individual’s confidential information or contact details.

Please remember that our channels are monitored by real people. Anyone who is rude or aggressive to the team will be banned immediately.

Our working hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. We’ll deal with enquiries sent outside of this time as soon as possible when working hours resume.

Please note that we are unable to provide any direct support to individuals in mental distress through our social media channels. If you're in need of support, please visit our urgent help pages.

For complaints, please email complaints@samh.org.uk or complete the online complaint form.
