Breaking the Stigma shortlisted for major youth award

Posted by See Me, 10 April 2025

Our joint project with LGBT Youth Scotland has been listed among the finalists for a major Scottish youth award.

The Breaking the Stigma project has made it to the final three in the Health and Wellbeing category of the National Youth Work Awards

The awards, which are hosted by YouthLink Scotland, recognise the youth workers, projects, and organisations making a real difference in young people’s lives.

Breaking the Stigma is a series of three videos exploring the impact of mental health stigma for LGBT+ young people and suggesting supportive approaches for friends, family and professionals from the young peoples’ perspectives.

The short films feature people’s real experiences of the stigma they’ve faced when trying to open up about their mental health.

The videos were created by a group of LGBT Youth Scotland young people, with support from LGBT Youth Scotland, See Me staff, volunteers and youth consultants and Queer Film Night.
The short videos are designed for use in education settings, with youth groups and service providers, to spark conversations among family and friends and to help other young people in similar situations to feel less alone.

See Me project officer Anna Cook said: “We knew when we started working on the Breaking the Stigma project with LGBT Youth Scotland that it would have an impact, so it’s fantastic to see that being recognised with a place on the shortlist at the National Youth Work Awards.

“The videos are incredibly powerful and will do so much to open up the conversation around mental health stigma for LGBT+ young people and those around them. We’re very proud of everyone involved.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow in June.
