Join Us In Inverness To Hear How Tackling Stigma Can Help Recovery

Posted by See Me, 14 February 2018

On February 26th we're joining NHS Highland for an event looking at how educational approaches can be used to help people in recovery from mental health conditions.

The Inverness Mental Health Recovery College Event will look at what Recovery Colleges are and if they could help people in Inverness and the Highlands.

Unlike other methods of health care, a Recovery College uses an education approach to give people the skills and knowledge which could help in their recovery, and in everyday life. Often this includes peer-led education and training programmes within mental health services, allowing for education to be a route to recovery.

We will be hosting a workshop session at the event looking at how personal stories and social contact can help to break down stigma and discrimination, and how a Recovery College environment can enable this. We will also be delivering the opening remarks in the afternoon.

Throughout the day there will be talks, a selection of workshops, stalls, and opportunities for people to have their views fed in. The optional workshops will explore:

  • Tackling stigma and discrimination;
  • Outdoor activities to create therapeutic environments;
  • What is meant by co-production in terms of service design;
  • What recovery colleges can offer participants; and
  • A toolkit for employers.

There will also be a Wellbeing Marketplace between 12.30-2pm involving or exploring:

  • Mindfulness
  • Storytelling
  • Third Sector Resources
  • Psychological Services including Deaf Services
  • Recovery Colleges
  • Decider Skills
  • A walk.

The event will take place at The Centre for Health Sciences, Raigmore Hospital, Old Perth Road, Inverness IV2 3JH
