Flash Choir!

‘see me’ launched Scottish Mental Health Week activities with a Flash Choir! Which took place on 10th October 2011 10.30 am at Castle Street, Edinburgh and 1.30 pm at Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

10th October was World Mental Health Day and for one day only we put together our own ‘see me’ Flash Choir!
We invited members of choirs from Edinburgh and Glasgow to join us to help raise awareness of ‘see me’s campaign to change public perceptions, attitudes and behaviour towards people with a mental health problem.

The Flash Choir! lasted around 30 minutes at each site. We selected songs that are rousing and inspirational and fit our campaign theme of support: Lean on Me and the South African song Bambelela which translates as ‘never give up’.

We filmed the event and the footage is now up on our website (homepage) and Youtube. We also carried out interviews to camera with some of our ‘see me’ media volunteers and handed out ‘see me’ information leaflets and wallet cards with tips on how to look after your own mental health. The Edinburgh event was covered on that night's STV News (at 12:35 minute mark).
